Overview

Patterns & Perspective is my MA Final Design project exploring the world of patterns through an engaging, interactive activity book. The book combines visual puzzles, thought-provoking questions, and hands-on activities to guide readers through the fundamentals of patterns ,and then roots that knowledge in the rich cultural heritage of Indian pattern-making traditions.

Problem

Patterns are everywhere - in nature, architecture, textiles, and daily life, yet most people encounter them without truly seeing or understanding them. There is a lack of accessible, visually engaging resources that not only explain the fundamentals of patterns but also celebrate the deep cultural stories woven into traditional design, particularly within the Indian context.

Solution
  • An interactive activity book structured in two parts: the first introduces readers to the universal language of patterns through fun puzzles and exploratory prompts that encourage curiosity and close observation.

  • The second part dives into a curated selection of iconic Indian patterns, unpacking the stories, symbolism, and motifs behind each one - making cultural knowledge approachable and visually compelling.

  • The book bridges design education with cultural storytelling, making it meaningful for a wide audience.

  • Currently in development as part of an MA Design Communication final submission.
